hello.

Project Based Primary - Mikaela

I’m so glad you’re here! Project Based Primary has been a dream of mine since I began teaching. Prior to opening PBP I worked in local school districts as a special education assistant, a behavior specialist, a 4th grade teacher, and my favorite, a kindergarten teacher! I have a Teaching Certificate from Lewis-Clark State College with an endorsement in Reading and Literacy, as well as certifications in Project Based Learning from PBLWorks and Educurious, and certifications from Orton Gillingham, LETRS, and LiPS. Early literacy, phonics, and writing are my specialties and I love taking children on the journey of becoming readers and writers through science-based phonics, reading, and writing instruction.

In 2022 I left my position as a kindergarten teacher in our local public school system to open Project Based Primary School, a micro school and the first PBL Primary School in our state! It serves students 3-6 years old, and is an academically focused primary program that teaches through the use of Project Based Learning, hands-on exploration, developmentally appropriate learning materials, and open ended play.

When I am not teaching, mentoring homeschool families and early childhood educators, or making learning resources, I LOVE spending time with my husband and daughter. Together we enjoy going to the beach, traveling, visiting antique stores, collecting mid century furniture and art, watching movies, playing, and eating good food! And when I get time to myself I love a good book, specifically memoirs, and watching documentaries. If you have any recommendations, email me!
